Teaching goals:
1. Help students to learn how to use imperative sentences to express ways of looking good and
feeling good.
2. Let students know that feeling good is more important than looking good.
Language point: Imperative sentence
Difficult point: The usage of imperative sentences
Teaching method: Discussion
Teaching tool:
Pictures & textbook
Teaching procedures:
Step 1: free talk
Good morning, boys and girls. Before our class, I’ll show you some pictures. Look at this; do you think the lady on the picture is looking good? Do you think she is feeling good? How about the thin man lying on the bed, is he looking good or feeling good? How about the two men? So, looking good and feeling good, which one do you think is more important? Since ideas are quite different, we are going to have a competition and then find the answer.
Step 2: revision
Before our contest, let’s review a language point---imperative sentence. What is imperative sentence? Imperative sentence is used to express a command, request, advice, warning and prohibition. For example, be seated. /Come here. /Don’t go. Here we can find “be” is a linking verb, “come” a verb, “don’t” auxiliary verb. So we often use the original form of verbs in imperative sentences.
Step 3: competition
Now, I’ll divide you into two groups---group A and group B. A will talk about how to look good and B will talk about how to feel good. Four pictures in our textbook on page 41 will be given to you. If I ask how to look good or how to feel good, you have to answer me. Remember you must use imperative sentences to describe them. See which group is better.
Picture 1: How to look good?
→ yes, we can dress clothes that suit us. This means, we can dress properly.
Picture 2: How to feel good:
→ Right, we can exercise our body. In other words, we can do regular exercise.
Picture 3: How to look good?
→ Great, we can get more sleep to look good. Because if you don’t, you face will be covered with pimples. This means that we can get enough sleep to look good.
Picture 4: How to feel good?
→ Very good, eat more fruit.
Step 4: homework
You both group all did a great job. Now if I ask you looking good and feeling good, which one is more important? Yes, feeling good is more important. Which means that health should go first. That’s all for our class. Please write a short article to describe ways of looking good and feeling good. And you have to write it with imperative sentences. See you next time!
