just bought another garage in Pinhurst. Pinhurst is only five
miles from Silbury, but Mr. Scott cannot get a telephone for his new garage, so he has just bought twelve pigeons. Yesterday, a pigeon carried the first message from Pinhurst to Silbury.
The bird covered the distance in three minutes. Up to now,
Mr.Scott has sent a great many requests for spare parts and other urgent messages from one garage to the other. In this way, he has begun his own private 'telephone' service.

1、 from Silbury,介词from作“距……”、“离…….”讲，常
与away连用。如It is far(away) fron here.
2、 Up to now(=up till now),到现在为止，做时间状语，句
子的时态多用现在完成时。
3、 a great many,许多的，其中great表示数量大，只能同
可数名词的复数连用。
