EXPERIENCE OF CYLINDER MAKING FROM PRECISION PIPES FOR OIL WELL SUCKER-ROD PUMPS Sh. R. Ruvinov, R. F. Gasanov, S. G. Gasanov, and R. M. Al'bert UDC 622.276.054.2

An analysis of the domestic and foreign experience of use of oil well sucker-rod p~nps has shown that sleeveless oil well pumps having seamless cylinders are more efficient than those with sleeves. However, the precision of and labor input in the manufacture of seamless cylinders depend a great deal on the quality of the precision-pipe billets. The pipes manufactured to GOST (All-Union State Standard) 8732-75 and 9567-75 specifications and other norm and technical documents (NTD) do not meet the demands made on seamless cylinders for oil well pumps, so at present seamless cylinders are made from imported pipes, which deters expansion of oil well pump manufacture. Import of pipes is avoidable provided the pipe industry masters the technology and organizes manufacture of precision pipes suitable for making seamless cylinders. The VNITI (All-Union Scientific-Research, Planning, and Design Institute of the Pipe Industry), Dnepropetrovsk, in conjunction with the PNTZ (Pervoural'sk New-Pipe Plant), conducted studies to develop the technology of precision pipe manufacture from 38Kh2MYuA steel. In these studies two technological schemes of pipe manufacture were used: from hot-rolled and pressure-formed billets. The pipes produced from the hot-rolled billets by broaching on a bevelled roller press had eccentric walls of variable thickness, and the extremal wall thicknesses variation distribution depends on the position of the pipe channel axis. Studies have shown that the pattern of wall thickness variation distribution upon further deformation of the pipes on pipe-rolling units remains the same, but the relative variation changes slightly. In the course of making cylinders from experimental batches of pipes produced on mills from hot-rolled billets, it was found that there is a longitudinal helical wall thickness variation (Figs. 1 and 2) with considerable gradations in a limited length (0.3-0.4 m), which bends the pipe channel axis significantly. As a result, it is not rectifiable by subsequent repair and honing. This phenomenon was observed in all three experimental batches of pipes made from hot-rolled billets. In order to eliminate this fault, we made two experimental batches of pipes from pressureformed billets in which hot deformation of the pipes was effected on horizontal h y d r a u l i c presses. After pressure-forming the pipe surface was covered with a thin layer of scale, which conforms to the technical specifications. From six pipes were cut 800-1400 mm sections
