Part Ⅰ Analysis of the teaching material

1. Status & Function

This reading class is the third period of this unit. It introduces the importance and measures of first aid. This is a hot and necessary topic nowadays. Accidents are happening around us, it is necessary for us to learn first aid to save people’s lives. So such kind of design will considers students ‘demand. And it can be useful in our real life.

2. Teaching aims & demands:

1) Knowledge objective:

Enable students to master vocabulary and expressions related to first aid.

2) Ability objectives:

a. enable students to get information from the text correctly and effectively. b. enable students to put knowledge into effects

c. cultivate students to search information from library or on the Internet. d. to train students’ cooperative competence.

3) Feeling attitudes & cultural sense:

a. guide students to join in my class on their own initiative.

b. enable students to know the importance of first aid and the safety rules.

3. Teaching key points:

1) Different kinds of outlines of text

2) Some expressions about first aid.

2) Give students more flexible ways of reading.

4. Teaching difficulties:

1) Help the students to grasp what the letters DR ABC have taught and give the first aid that is needed.

2) Cultivate students’ ability of searching reference material beyond the text book.
