Review of the Babel

I think, what the movie want to convey is the understanding and communication of human beings. While in order to realize them, languages are of vital importance, and it doesn’t matter it is wordless or not.

However, a series of misunderstanding seem to result from our first impression, and it is the very conception that has been ignored by us for a long time, becoming a common way of thinking. Through the legend of the Babel and the plot of this movie, we can see that the occurring of the misunderstanding comes from the obstacle of the languages. But then we know that the barrier of languages isn’t the main reason, and someone’s betraying human’s language isn’t the real reason why the Babel collapses.

In my mind, the happening of the tragedy has nothing to do with languages. On the contrary, the occurrence of the tragedy comes from the prejudice and selfish of people’s inner heart.

Assume it, if these American tourists could have given up their own prejudice and treat the Moroccans equally, they wouldn’t have felt a series of horror and frightened. While it is a fact that the American citizens do have sufficient conditions that that they can be proud of, thus, making them feel superior to the other races. We can see through it from the conceptions of the American boy, it is about the impression of the Mexico. Obviously, it is difficult to change these conceptions thoroughly. What’s more, if these tourists could have thought more about the hero, who cares much about his wife under an emergency rather than himself and the loss of the time, they wouldn’t have left the man and his wife alone. Seeing the bus in the distance, the hero was disappointed at not only his country but his being deserted by his companion without showing any mercy. Fortunately, the Mexico guide tried his best to give a helping hand, which became the only comfort to a man who was in a strange country. When the hero was going to return his hometown, the guide refused to accept the money given by the American. After all, what’s in his mind was the basic principle as a human being.

In addition, the baby-sitter from Mexico did ask her companion for help at first, hoping that they could help to take care of the two children, but they let her down. Out of her caring for the two children, she took them with her. If her companion could have understood the feeling of a mother to her son’s wedding and taken care of the children, it wouldn’t have left her hope unfinished. It was obviously that it was difficult for Mexicans to live in America, so they found various reasons to refuse the baby-sitter. Although they had no choice, but it did reflect the Mexicans was trying to protect themselves under the effect of the prejudice of the Americans.

Things about the Japanese girl enlarge the obstacle of people’s communication. Communication between the ordinary people has some trouble, let alone a deaf-mute girl. The lack of the ability to communicate with people makes the girl feel lonely, let alone she lives in a city that looks like noisy but without any mercy. The prejudice presented by people accidentally, including her father, hurt the girl a lot. But she is always trying to find a chance to communicate with people, and the kind policeman listened to the voice from the bottom of her heart. There was once a little thing, that is, when he heard that the rifle he had owned before had something with a murder, he cared much about his friend instead of his daughter. I couldn’t help trembling at the sight of that scene. Although we may think that the Japanese are cold in our notion, having the typical conception of capitalism that interests come first, they will show their caring and
