English for “公司”

Business is the organized effort of individuals to produce and sell, for a profit, the goods and services that satisfy society’s needs.

Companies are a very important part of a country's economy. Companies produce goods and services, and they come in every shape and size. Although the vast majority of the world's companies are small, in many countries large companies dominate the economy.

If you work in a company or want to set up a company, it is quite essential for you to be clear about the basic information of your company: the form, the organization or structure, the departments and positions, the corresponding jobs and responsibilities, etc.

Ⅰ．English for “公司”

1. company 公司，股份公司，使最常用的一词。既可指个人所有制和合伙制的公司，也可指股份公司。不用姓名作公司的名称时，通常不用company 的缩写形式（Co.）。如：ABC Electronics Company(ABC电子产品公司)。 而Lee & Co. ( 李氏公司)是用人名作公司名的用法，（这种公司常为合资公）。若是股份有限公司， 则都在公司后面加上Ltd.（Limited 的缩写）如：ABC Electronics Company, Ltd. (ABC电子产品股份有限公司) Lee & Co. Ltd（李氏股份有限公司）

另外，company 作“公司” “股份公司”讲是正式用语，多与划分公司种类的词搭配。

2. corporation 公司，“股份公司”适用于大中型企业 如： China Metal Products Corporation中国五金制品公司. 注意，美国人可将corporation解作limited liability company，即有限公司。

Corporation则指公司，或法人，或法人团体，例如﹕

In Great Britain, the Electricity Authority and the British Broadcasting Corporation are public corporations.在英国，电力署和英国广播公司均为公共法人（团体）。

3. firm (口语) 公司， 商号，多指个人所有制和合伙制的公司firm: a business or company especially a small one: electronics/advertising/law etc firm. 朗文当代英语辞典的解释：）

4. concern公司 （用法大致与company相同） 如：sister concern (=sister company 姐妹公司)

incorporated (Inc.) 股份有限公司（尤其用于美国）如：Leather Products Inc. （皮革制

品股份有限公司） Business 公司，企业

Enterprises表示“实业、企业”

house 公司 （特指出版书籍，设计服装，提供信贷等的公司）

store（s) 百货公司。例如：Great Universal Store 大世界百货公司（英）

associates（联合）公司。例如： British Nuclear Associates 英国核子联合公司 system（广播、航空等）公司。例如： Mutual Broadcasting System 相互广播公司（莫） Malaysian Airline System 马来西亚航空公司 Line（s） （轮船、航空、航运等）公司

Atlantic Container Line 大西洋集装箱海运公司 Hawaiian Air Lines 夏威夷航空公司 Agency 公司、代理行

The Austin Advertising Agency 奥斯汀广告公司 China Ocean Shipping Agency 中国外轮代理公司
