LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

Dear delegates,

Welcome to the United Nations Security Council of the Northeast Regional Model

United Nations Conference! This is a great platform to show your interest and gift for

MUN and I really can’t wait to see your enthusiasm and talent.

UNSC is a complete different committee because there are fewer delegates and it

provides each of you a wonderful opportunity to improve your ability. Also, the rules

of procedure are not quite the same as usual, saying, there are five countries have veto

power. What’s more, a crisis will add more fun in this.

And I am sure you are very curious about me. What does she look like? What’s her

interest? Is she easygoing? Now I am going to talk a little bit about myself. This is a

student - just like you - from Harbin No.3 Middle School. I’m an active girl. You can

call me Alina if you like and I always participate in groups of activities such as MUN,

voluntary work, etc. I was a delegate in DISEC in WEMUNC 2010, H3ZMUN 2010

and will participate in the Harvard Model United Nations. I love languages esp.

English - that’s why I love MUN so much - and I am learning French these days. I am

helpful as you will tell in the following days and a little sentimental maybe.

After a brief self introduction, the topics to be discussed will be mentioned here. The

first one is about the Somalia pirates. It has drawn considerable attention from all

around the world and it is a hot spot on peace and development in the UNSC. It will

be useful to understand the international situation and get armed with your acuity.

Nuclear diffusion is another word that surrounds us every day. Nuclear weapons have

always been controversial and never leaved our sight since it came out and the

diffusion certainly led it to a different way. The two topics are both international hot

spots and require an immediate solution. So I would like you to make a complete

research, be clear with your country’s position and prepare for a real SC conference.

You are going to explore a new world and it’s all from here. Finish the background

guide and begin your own research. However, this is a tough task. The BG is just part

of what you should know. You should be fully prepared when you are at conference as

a diploma on behalf of your country.

I believe we will have a fantastic time together here and don’t hesitate to contact me

at if you have any questions or confusion. And I will always

be here waiting.

Yours,

Jieyu Zhu
